Broadway Fountain

Miletree Construction started the works in October 2002 and the former JF Kennedy Gardens and Broadway Walk were closed to the public for the duration of the works.

With the exception of 3 mature oak trees all of the existing trees and planting was removed and replaced with new trees and planting. The gardens were completely re-turfed to provide an attractive area for the users of the gardens to relax. New footways were constructed to encourage better use of the Gardens and a new Events Area was introduced.

The new fountain located at the south of the Gardens provides a focal point to the tree-lined Broadway. The 13.6m octagonal fountain is constructed on piled foundations designed to accommodate potential heave in the desiccated soil. The fountain reaches 6m in height and to minimise overspray onto the surrounding york stone paved areas is designed to automatically reduce when wind speed increases. At night underwater lighting illuminates the fountain.

BCAL fulfilled the roles of highway engineer, structural engineer and planning supervisor on the project.
